Augusta/Kennebec have lots of locations for great fishing

The Belgrade lakes, just north of Augusta, is a chain of seven fresh water lakes from 500 acres to over 8,000 acres in surface area. All the lakes have excellent fishing and state-operated boat launches. Open water fishing and ice fishing is permitted on all the lakes. Fishing regulations may vary among the lakes. Great Pond in Belgrade and Rome, off Route 27, 8, and 225 -- 70 feet deep. Brown trout, brook trout, salmon, smelt, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white perch, pickerel, northern pike.
Messalonskee Lake in Belgrade, Oakland, Sidney, off Route 8, 11, 23 -- 100 feet deep. Brook trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, salmon, smelt, pickerel, northern pike.
North Pond in Mercer and Smithfield, off route 8 or 137 or Caswell Road -- 20 feet deep. Brown trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white perch, pickerel, northern pike.
East Pond in Oakland and Smithfield, off East Pond Road -- 27 feet deep. Brown trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white perch, pickerel, smelt.
Salmon Lake in Oakland and Belgrade, off Route 8 or Town Farm Road -- 57 feet deep. Brook trout, brown trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white perch, pickerel.
McGrath Pond in Oakland and Belgrade, off McGrath Pond Road -- 27 feet deep. Brown trout, brook trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white perch, pickerel.
