Escape from the ordinary with an unforgettable vacation aboard a Maine windjammer

Each of the nine traditional tall ships in the Maine Windjammer Association has a tale to tell. The 150-year-old Stephen Taber, for example, is the oldest documented sailing vessel in continuous U.S. service; the J.&E. Riggin was built in 1927 as an oyster dredger. But all the ships share a mission: to provide guests with a total escape from the ordinary. The windjammers can carry between 16 and 40 guests and have comfortable single, double and triple cabins. Adventures include sailing past lighthouses and schools of porpoises and into quiet coves to explore fishing villages. Guests can participate in activities from steering the ship to paddle boarding and playing Scrabble around a wood stove. Evenings are for stories, songs and star-gazing. Home-cooked meals include a Down East lobster bake.
