The Acadia Night Sky Festival will take place this September beginning on the evening of Thursday the 9th, with events continuing through sunrise on Monday the 12th. Centered on Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park, the Festival celebrates the protection and enjoyment of Downeast/Acadia's stellar night sky through education, science, and the arts. From an Ecotourism panel discussion to day-time hands-on activities to stargazing in Acadia National Park to, the public is invited to share the inspiration of Maine's spectacular night sky. Events includes night sky viewing from the top of Cadillac Mountain, night photography workshops, a picnic with the planets on the Village Green followed by a free outdoor showing of the movie E.T The Extra-Terrestrial. There will be a night sky tour aboard the ship Friendship V that will be narrated and talk about how sailors used the night sky for navigation.
